In general, social networking has many benefits to society. People can share information quickly and efficiently through a press of a button. People can also communicate globally without having to pay any fees. Information on others is also easily obtained which has both negative and positive effects.
On the other hand, social networking has a dark side. Since information on individuals are scattered all over the social media, unwanted people can obtain private information on you easily. In the article "Who Cares About Facebook Privacy? Students Do", most young adults are more aware of online privacy issues because of how accessible their private information is on Facebook. In addition, social media also contributes to a generation of people who have less experience speaking to other individuals in person.
Personally I feel that as the social network technologies become more pervasive in our lives, our generation and the generation after us will have more trouble with direct communication. With so much information in these technologies, it'll just be an archive on people.
