When you first open up the Facebook homepage, you are on the newsfeed page. On the newsfeed page, you see trending posts from your friends and other pages that you have liked and started to follow. On the left, there are apps. On the right hand side, you see a list of your current friends who are online. Facebook immediately looks very full and there is a lot going on if you are new to it.
With Tumblr, its more of a creative blog post. Your Tumblr page is full of pictures, videos, texts which are from the people you choose to follow. Tumblr's page layout consists of two columns. One column is the main column where you scroll through posts and reposts, and the other column allows you to navigate through your own posts and friends posts. The difference between tumblr and facebook is that facebook includes more personal information. Tumblr on the other hand is more for creativity and pictures.
Similar to Facebook and Tumblr, there's Twitter. Twitter seems quite messy if you're new to the site. People are always updating their posts and commenting on whatever that goes on around them. People don't put up pictures as much as the other social networking sites. The comments are very short but clear and concise. It's easier to follow compared to the other sites.
Lastly, there's Instagram. Instagram mainly consists of pictures and people's opinions and questions on the picture. These photos typically show what people are doing at any given time. Instagram is very easy to follow and there's only one main page to look at which is the newsfeed. Because it only consists of photos, it's rare for the same photo to reoccur and it's also rare for a post to be revived after a given time. It's basically a collection of events and memories.
