Advice to Baruch College

If I were hired by Baruch College to use new media to improve the College, I would change blackboard in such a way that allow students to buy school items such as textbooks, calculators, supplies, and etc from each other. This way, those items can be cycled and students can save lots of money from having to buy brand new supplies. Although we already have a buying and selling website on Facebook, I feel that it is way too disorganized and it is very hard to find specific things that you want a good price. With this new application on blackboard, we can somehow include a forum and integrate some sort of  store and trading platform for students and teachers. We can include a messaging system and a possibly an announcement page for professors. This tool will pretty much be Baruch's private social media platform which can have many functions and is only available to students and faculty from Baruch.

  1. I actually really like this idea. Although it would be extremely difficult and costly to make a new/add to the existing platform, Baruch should think about it. Maybe it will eventually help them save money as well. But we all know that this means an extra boost in tuition costs.

  2. seems to me a good idea but not sure if Baruch would really welcome that idea, considering the fact that BB is mainly for Professor(admins); students are more or less like the end-users. Also, they would like to make money from their book store...

  3. This is a brilliant idea that I believe can definitely work. I have used Facebook amongst many other sites to purchase textbooks and I couldn't agree more that its very disorganized. The advice you gave eliminates the hassle of all of that. While this is only for Baruch I believe the whole blackboard system would have to enable it for all students in CUNY to access it for it to work. Very good Idea!

  4. I love this idea. So many people do not like blackboard and keep complaining about it, but such improvements that you have provided, would help students on every day basis and hopefully they would start liking the blackboard more.

  5. Excellent idea Jackie! I can't even say how many times I wish I had access to my course materials via blackboard. It'd be great to have more than homework assignment and syllabi placed there. Also, I imagine students would be more engaged in their blackboard experience if blackboard offered more to the student. It always seemed to me like blackboard was made for educators. Hopefully that will change.
